Airport Director says expansion is behind schedule

Posted: Updated:

People flying out of Western Nebraska Regional Airport (WNRA) won't be able to take advantage of the facility's new and improved waiting area for a little bit longer.
An airport expansion project is underway at WNRA.  But issues with funding and freezing temperatures have put the project behind schedule.

Airport Director Darwin Skelton says winter construction projects are usually tough to finish on-time because of unexpected weather delays.
"So it's behind schedule.  Even the new schedule is behind schedule a little bit," says Skelton.  "But all in all, it's progressing along.  You know we had some really cold days where we couldn't do much but the last couple of days have been great and they've been getting some good work accomplished."
The expansion of the airport's security area will provide new restrooms, vending machines, and seating for nearly 200-additional people.
