NPPD in beginning phases of new Stegall-Scottsbluff transmission line project

Posted: Updated:

A new transmission line project in KOTA Territory is kicking into gear.

At a lunchtime meeting Wednesday, Nebraska Public Power District officials outlined the new transmission line project that would run from Scottsbluff to Stegall.

The 115,000-volt electric transmission line is being built to enhance and ensure reliable power delivery to the area for the future.

The line will extend from the existing Scottsbluff Substation to a new substation that will be built approximately five miles south of Stegall.

"This line is really needed from a reliability standpoint," said NPPD Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Tom Kent. "It will help strengthen the transmission network in this part of the state and ensure that we can continue to reliability deliver electricity to this area in the future."

Before the project even starts, officials will spend a year holding a series of public–input and information meetings for landowners to learn more about the project and for officials to gather details and public concerns.

"We go through an involved public involvement process," Kent said. "Its really important because we really want to understand the issues that landowners may have, the issues that community leaders may have, and we want to try to do everything we cant to address those issues and make sure they understand why the line is so important and unlimitedly fine a route that minimizes impact."

The first of these meetings will be held  on January 23 from 2-8 p.m. at the Gering Civic Center.

Notices of the meetings are being sent out to more than 1,600 residents in the area that could be impacted by the project.

Spring 2015-Summer2016: Engineering/Survey/Easement Acquisition
Summer 2016-Spring 2017: Construction
