Residents 'happy' with police presence in Mitchell

Posted: Updated:

People in Mitchell say they're happy with the beefed up police presence around the city after Friday's meth bust and other recent events like the bomb scare on December 31st.

Mitchell police along with the Scotts Bluff County Sheriff's office and the WING Drug Task Force investigators searched a home on Center Street after obtaining a warrant Friday afternoon in Mitchell.

Officials say George Valles and Joseph Lowery were arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell.

Christin Valles was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine.

During the search, officials seized a handgun, a shotgun and nearly 17 ounces of meth.

One mother says Mitchell police are doing a good job patrolling the city and schools.
"They've really been patrolling up there which feels kinda nice when you have children going to the school up here." Said Patricia Jennings of Mitchell. "It's really nice, I think they're doing a good job. They caught that bomb threat and now this. I think they're doing a real good job."
Billie Widtfeldt of Minatare said she's satisfied but wants to see more positive community efforts to keep drugs off the streets.

"I believe we need to get rid of the drugs in this area one way or another and the faster we get these people apprehended the better this area is." Said Widtfeldt.
The investigation is ongoing.
