Scottbluff's Parks and Rec preparing for park upgrade projects

Posted: Updated:

With the start of the new year in full swing members of the Scottsbluff Parks and Recreation department are getting ready to upgrade three playgrounds in the city as part of some 2014 projects.
Director of Parks and Recreation Perry Mader says as spring nears crews will be installing new playground equipment at Neighbor Park, Northwood Park and Pioneer Park.

The estimated cost for the playground project this year is $60,000. That cost will be taken out of the city's general fund.

Mader says his department will be putting in traditional playground pieces, replacing and also enhancing out of date equipment.

He says he wants families to feel safe.
"With playground equipment there's a lot of different elements. We want to encourage families and kids to get out and use parks more. There's the safety element with outdated equipment so a lot of factors go into some of the decisions that we make." Said Mader.
Mader says overall, the playground project plan is to look out for the health and well-being of residents.
