A Scottsbluff woman is facing felony assault charges after being accused of stabbing a man in the chest numerous times.

51-year-old Georgia Ann Lefthand is charged with First Degree Assault and Use of a Deadly a Weapon to Commit a Felony.

Captain Brian Wasson of the Scottsbluff Police Department says police responded to a stabbing at 1320 5th Avenue around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday. Police and witnesses say that Lefthand stabbed 45-year-old Timothy Britthouer, believed to be her boyfriend.

Britthouer had puncture wounds on his upper left chest, upper right chest, and a laceration to his left wrist.

Officers found a bloody steak knife near Britthouer.

During the investigation, it was found that there was bleeding around Britthouer's heart. He was initially taken to Regional West Medical Center then flown to a medical care facility in Loveland, Colorado.

"We made notification to the victim's family shortly after the assault. None of them were present during any of this. Our biggest communication now is with the medical care facility at Loveland. We would like to talk to the victim when he's able to do so." Said Wasson.

County Attorney Doug Warner says that Britthouer's condition was critical but stable as of Monday morning.

Lefthand has a history of several assaults and alcohol-related charges since 1998.

The investigation is ongoing.
