Mitchell meth bust proves to be one of largest in recent history

Posted: Updated:

The commander for the region's largest drug task force says that Friday's meth bust in Mitchell is one of the largest take downs in recent memory.

Joseph Lowery and George Valles have been charged with possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute.

During the search of their Mitchell home, more than 17 ounces of methamphetamine was seized. That includes one crystal that weighed approximately 10 ounces, as well as seven individually packaged ounces of the drug.

WING Drug Task Force Commander Dana Korell says that Valles was a major player in the local meth ring.   "For this area... That is huge," says Korell. "I'm going to estimate he's towards the top. But obviously that methamphetamine had to come from some place, and I don't think it was produced locally."

Also arrested was Valles' wife, who is charged with possession of methamphetamine.
