Gering downtown revitalization plans well underway following community forum

Posted: Updated:

Potential improvements to one of the panhandle's most populous cities are unveiled to the public.

The Downtown Gering Revitalization Committee hosted a forum Wednesday night for the public to provide input on the future of their downtown. Contracting group SEH discussed their findings as well.

Community Development Specialist Andrew Dane says he sees a positive outlook for future businesses in Gering. He says the city has potential for new restaurants, a salon, and even a micro-brewery.

However, people living in Gering need to find an agreement on strategies and types of improvements they want to see for their downtown.

"Whether it's a fountain or some street trees or narrowing the streets," explains Dane. "What can be done and get the buy in from the community and ultimately the tax payers- who are going to be on the hook for making that happen."

A final report will be submitted to city leaders by February 10th, who will then decide what direction they will go with for downtown revitalization.
