Nine incidents, one death reported during 2013 hunting seasons

Posted: Updated:

Nine hunting–related incidents and one death were reported to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission in 2013.

Those numbers are just about at-par with the yearly average of 10 hunting incidents per year, in Nebraska.

Eight of the incidents in 2013 involved the discharge of a rifle, or shotgun, and one involved a fall from an elevated stand.

Seven of the incidents, including the fatal one, involved one person shooting another.

Game and Parks says four incidents occurred while hunting upland birds, two while hunting big game, two while hunting non-game animals and one while hunting furbearers.

Approximately 175,000 people hunt in Nebraska each year, and hunter education coordinators say its very important that hunters go through some type of safety seminar or class before going into the fields.
