Startup panhandle bicycling club officially has a new name, president

Posted: Updated:

A start-up panhandle bicycling club has officially given themselves a name.
Western Nebraska Bicycling Club, or WNBC, was the name chosen by the group.

More than 35 people showed up for the first official meeting of the bicycling club Saturday night.

WNBC also named a new president, Garrett Olsen from Sidney.

Olsen says the club hopes to eventually improve the bike trail system in the area, but the first order of business is to get more people interested and enthusiastic about riding.
"I know a lot of people have talked mainly about the Wildcat Hills, trying to get mountain bike trails for beginners, intermediate and advanced," Olsen said. "But more concerned just about getting people on those trails, getting them on the mountain bike path, getting them out there riding."
The next meeting of the Western Nebraska Bicycling Club will be Saturday, February 15 at Caddies Bar and Grill in Gering.
