Alliance streetscape phase-one complete

Posted: Updated:

The final bricks have been set and store owners, local contractors and the City of Alliance are celebrating the end of phase-one of the city's streetscape project.
Earlier this week, Alliance Mayor Fred Feldges cut the red ribbon that officially marked the end of part one to the city's downtown revitalization project.

City Manager J.D. Cox thanked businesses, city council members, staff and local contractor K.L. Wood and Company for all the work put into the project.

Since August, crews have been planting trees, installing a new irrigation system, changing street lamps and placing electric wires underground between Box Butte Avenue and the west side of 3rd Street.

Mayor Feldges says this project has been in the works since the 1990s.
"This is a fruition of all of the studies and all the hard work that went into not just this city council but the previous city councils and it was this council that decided let's just do it," says Mayor Feldges.
"It's been a great experience dating back to meetings with the downtown businesses starting last year and you can see the passion of the people of Alliance," says Jack Baker of Baker and Associates.  "They really care about downtown and how it looks at how it turns out and I think the end result is something we can all be proud of..."
Phase-two of the streetscape project includes construction between 3rd and 5th Street.  It's set to start this spring.
