Panhandle community plans major water projects

Posted: Updated:

One KOTA Territory community has some big water projects in the works.
Starting this spring, water meters will be installed throughout Terrytown.

Mayor Kent Greenwalt says Terrytown is the last community in Scotts Bluff County to install water meters, which are used to measure water usage.

Community officials are also looking at future options for supplying the town with water.

In early 2012, one of Terrytown's two wells tested positive for high levels of arsenic.
"We're in the middle of a study right now," says Greenwalt.  [We're] debating whether we're going to drill another well or whether we're going to get into a contract with Scottsbluff or Gering and have them supply is with water."
Greenwalt says decisions should be made sometime in the near future.  Community officials encourage the people of Terrytown to find an alternate water supply, like bottled water.
