New candidate enters Scottsbluff City Council race

Posted: Updated:

Scottsbluff City Council has a new candidate entering the race.

Jordan Colwell is a registered nurse and currently serves as the Director of Accreditation at Regional West Medical Center.

The panhandle native is also a First Lieutenant and flight nurse for the 34th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron of the United States Air Force Reserve.

Colwell is active in a number of groups throughout the community including Leadership Scottsbluff, Knights of Columbus, and the Teammates Mentoring Program.

Colwell says he's always wanted to work in community service and has a lot of ideas pertaining to community improvement if elected.

"People always talk about economic development and we live in rural Nebraska," says Colwell.  "So we really need to work on collaboration amongst all the cities, towns, villages... Because we're it.  And we continue to decline in population and recruitment and retention is very important to people in the panhandle."

Colwell says he'd also like to see more emphasis put on recreational activities in the area.

"We need to get people moving.  Get people outdoors. We have the landscape for it."

Colwell was born and raised in Alliance, Nebraska and is married to Tiann Colwell, originally of North Platte.
