Senior Center Task Force to meet Friday

Posted: Updated:

Residents and the city of Alliance have formed a temporary Task Force to discuss the future of the Senior Center in the city.

Currently, Senior Service Inc. (SSI) manages the facility at 212 Yellowstone. SSI's lease ends February 19th.

On January 7th, City Manager J.D. Cox held a meeting and listened to residents' concerns about how the facility was used and managed by SSI.

It was decided not to renew the lease and set up a temporary Transition Task Force.

Cox says once the lease ends, SSI will continue to run the facility financially on a month to month basis. SSI will have the main lease with the city and will sub-lease it.

But the city will take over the management side of things.

"We decided that it would be in everyone's best interest for the city to go ahead and take over management of [the facility] effective the end of the lease," said Cox. "So Shana Brown, Culture and Leisures Director, will be basically calling the shots as far as if people want to request certain activities and things to occur in the facility."

Cox, Shana and Alliance residents will make up the Task Force.

Cox says he feels 'highly confident' that the force will come up with good solutions for making the facility a better place for residents to interact.

The first Task Force meeting to talk about the transition will be held this Friday.
