U.S. Senate debate coming to Gering next week

The four Republican candidates seeking Nebraska's open U.S. Senate seat this year will participate in their first debate later this month.

Candidates Sid Dinsdale, Bart McLeay, Shane Osborn and Ben Sasse have agreed to participate next Wednesday in the debate to be held in the Gering Civic Center in western Nebraska.

Hotel Operator Clifton Johnson will not be participating in this debate because he entered the race after the Gering debate had been set up.

The debate is sponsored by the Nebraska Republican Party in conjunction with the Nebraska Farm Bureau Federation.

The debate is open to the public, but seating is limited, so tickets for participation are required. Those wanting tickets may contact the Nebraska Republican Party.

The debate also will also be aired live on several radio stations and through live online streaming.

Candidates will answer questions on farm policy, immigration, federal tax reform, health care reform and national defense .
