Scottsbluff Council keeps 20th Street stop light

Posted: Updated:

The Scottsbluff City Council has given the green-light to keep a stoplight at a controversial intersection.

During Tuesday night's council meeting, members voted to keep the light at the intersection of 20th Street and 11th Avenue.

Last year, the city conducted a study to see if stop signs would improve traffic flow at the intersection. However with improvements coming to the nearby Monument Mall, the city council decided to err on the side of caution and keep the light.

"With the new ownership at the mall, we don't want to don anything that might impede or create problems for the new owners," explains Scottsbluff City Manager Rick Kuckkahn.

Neighbors in the area had also voiced concerns about an increase in traffic accidents if the stoplight was removed.
