Nebraska's Emergency Rooms ranks amongst top in nation

Posted: Updated:

A new report card ranks Nebraska emergency rooms as some of the best in the nation.

The American College of Emergency Physicians has released its annual ER report card.

Nebraska emergency rooms were ranked as fourth-best in the nation with a grade of B-.

That's much higher than the D+ grade that was given to the entire nation.

Regional West Medical Center's Emergency Department Director says because of our area, it's essential to find the best of the best.

"We are rural, we know we don't have tons of resources here, so we have to be excellent at what we do," explains Nancy Hicks-Arsenault. "Its helped us, though it's a challenge with physician recruitment, we're very lucky here at regional west that we have the physicians and the specialties that seem to be shorter in other parts of the nation."

Nebraska's neighbor to the west, Wyoming, ranked in the *bottom* five worst emergency departments in the nation.
