City of Bayard undergoing major water project

Posted: Updated:

New water mains are being installed throughout the Bayard community that will provide city residents with on–going access to quality water.

City Clerk Jennifer Kriha says Bayard's existing water mains are being replaced because they're out–dated.  She says the city is also planning to construct a new water treatment plant in coming–years.

Since construction began in November, community members have been dealing with temporary water shut–offs and numerous road closures.  However, they all seem to understand the project's necessity and are excited for the final product.

"The city has been great at letting the community know that students may need to take alternate routes to school," says Superintendent Travis Miller.  "And parents have been great at making extra time in the morning when they bring their children to school."

The $1.7-million water main improvement project is being paid for by funding from the USDA, loans, and grants.
