Alleged Mitchell meth dealer back in jail following first court appearance

Posted: Updated:

More serious charges have been filed against a Mitchell man involved in a massive methamphetamine bust earlier this month.

27-year-old George Valles was arraigned this morning in Scotts Bluff County Court on a new charge of 'Possession (of methamphetamine) with intent to Distribute' (more than 140 grams).

Court documents say that during a January 10th search of his Mitchell home, investigators found ten bags of methamphetamine weighing a total of more than 18 ounces in Valles' bedroom.

Initially, Valles was arrested on charges of false reporting, resisting arrest, and drug paraphernalia. Valles was free after posting 10% of his $25,000 bond.

Today in court, Judge Kris Mickey said that given the fact that Valles is now facing a Class IB felony, the state bond schedule calls for a bond ranging from $45,000 to $75,000.

Defense Attorney Dave Eubanks argued that Valles knew these higher charges were coming, and still appeared in court, and requested that the bond remained.

Judge Mickey increased the bond amount to $50,000 at 10%, and made Valles sign a waiver of extradition.

A preliminary hearing will be held for George Valles on Wednesday, January 29th at 9:30 a.m. in Scotts Bluff County Court. The Class IB felony he faces carries a prison sentence ranging from 20 years - to - life if convicted.
