WNCC opens doors to new learning resource center

Posted: Updated:

There's a buzz circulating on the Western Nebraska Community College after the completion of a new library project.
Students, staff and faculty members celebrated the opening of the new Learning Resource Center on Friday.

Prior to the center's completion, part of the library was used by the Testing and Tutoring Department.

Over time, students said it was difficult to concentrate while testing because of noise from the circulation desk.

In December, construction began to keep the testing and tutoring room separate from the circulation desk. Rusch's General Contracting, Adams Electric Services and Don Schmidt Carpet worked on the renovations.

Project organizers say they wanted to cater to the needs of students and everyone seems to be happy by the results.
"I've already had a student come and say we should've done this a lot sooner of course." Said Interim Library Director, Merrillene Wood. "And then we also had a student who is now a part-time employee here and comes up to me and just say thank you for doing this, I have taken tests in the area and this will help out a lot."
Construction on the new Learning Resource Center ended this week.
