"Nebraska" breaking records at Midwest Theater

Posted: Updated:

A film with the state's name is breaking records here in Nebraska.

Alexander Payne's film "Nebraska" has been nominated for six Academy Awards this year, including best picture, best picture, best director, best actor, best supporting actress, best screenplay, and best cinematography.

The film has also broken every attendance record in the history the Midwest theater.

This is also the first time in the theater's 17 years of operation that a film has been given a full theatrical week-long run.

Billy Estes, Executive Director of the Midwest Theater, says movie-goers who attend this Thursday's screening will have an extra special treat.

"We also have the film's director, Alexander Payne, will be Skyping in before the screening on Thursday night. Alexander has been a big fan of the theatre and supporter of us over the years."

The film "Nebraska" will run at 7:30 p.m. every night this week through Saturday, with a final screening at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.

In the comedy-drama film "Nebraska," Bruce Dern's character takes a road trip with his son through the state of Nebraska to claim a $1 million dollar sweepstakes prize he believes he won through a magazine contest.

Payne, a native of Omaha, is also the director of Academy Award nominated films "The Descendants," "Sideways," "About Schmit," and "Election."
