Tourism officials speak at Gering Business Club

Posted: Updated:

Local, regional and state wide tourism officials spoke to members of the Gering Business Club today about the future of tourism throughout the panhandle.
The luncheon held at the Gering Civic Center informed members about what's working when it comes to attracting visitors and what ideas people may have.

Scotts Bluff County Tourism Director Brenda Leisy says it is good to listen to the ideas from residents within the market about how to attract visitors.

She says five tourism projects proposed and executed last year were very successful.
"One of our main goals was to do demonstration projects and the kite festival that we had last year was a perfect example of what we wanted to put into that market segment." Said Leisy.

Karla Nie Dan-Streeks of the Gering Convention Visitors Bureau spoke about the mission of the tourism offices.

"We all have individual missions but they very much tie into each other's missions and that's our goal to make sure everybody knows what we do and why we do it that way." Said Dan-Streeks.

On February 19th, a marketing retreat will take place and the Legacy of the Plains Museum.

Residents are welcomed to talk about tourism ideas for their area.
