Bridgeport sets community fitness goals

Posted: Updated:

One KOTA Territory community wants to help residents stick to their 2014 fitness goals.

The City of Bridgeport will host special fitness events every month to encourage community members to live a healthier life style.

Bridgeport's Prairie Winds Community Center Activities Director Darren Emerick says this is the second year in a row the city has committed to hosting monthly fitness events.

January's special event was a 5-Kilometer ‘Ugly Sweater Race'.

Bridgeport's next fitness event is the ‘Ladies First Run' and will be held on February 15th.

"So in the particular race—it's another 5-k—the ladies are encouraged, but not required, to wear skirts," says Emerick.  "Then they get a three-minute head start.  So they start the race and the guys take off after them.  That was a really fun race last year too."

Emerick says a number of men showed-up wearing skirts to last year's event and that a group of men may be planning to sport kilts at year's race.
