Community Hospital's OB wing to undergo major renovation

Posted: Updated:

Torrington Community Hospital's 'obstetrics (OB) wing' will undergo a major renovation in coming months.

Some of the hospital's current delivery rooms and birthing suits will be turned into ‘LDRP rooms' complete with clinical areas for the baby's care after birth.

'LDRP' stands for ‘labor, delivery, recovery, postpartum'.

So the mother will be in the same room from the time she's admitted to the hospital through the time she's discharged.

"We don't have that right now," says Torrington Community Hospital's Chief Executive OfficerVince Difranco.  "Right now we have one delivery room basically that's used just for that delivery. Then the mother is moved into a postpartum room. And so we're creating one suite."

The hospital will also create a new room within the OB wing specifically for c–section deliveries.

In addition, the nurses station in the OB area will also receive an upgrade.

Renovations to the hospital's obstetrics wing is expected to cost just under $2 million.
