CSC student 'Freddy C' auditions for "The Voice"

Posted: Updated:

Frederick Culpa, or known to his friends as 'Freddy C,' didn't know if he'd win when he signed up to be a part of the 'CSC Voice" competition.

But that's exactly what he did.

And now the lucky Chadron State Junior is on his way to Nashville to audition for the producers of the TV singing competition 'The Voice'.

Freddy C came to western Nebraska from Hawaii to run track, but now he's chasing a different dream.

"Gave me something I could live for/And everybody wonders what's the change/They don't recognize me 'cause I got so much to say," Culpa belted out on Wednesday, just days before he headed off to Nashville.
He only started singing roughly three years ago, when he gradated high school.

And now he has the chance to take his voice to the big time.
"What I get is a front of the line pass, so I'm guaranteed an audition to perform in front of the producers of The Voice," Culpa said.
"I'm pretty calm about it, I'm actually really excited because of the song that I will be singing, I'm really comfortable with it. I feel like it expresses who I am as a singer."
Freddy will be singing Robin Thicke's 'Superman', and 'All Of Me' by John Legend.
And if those songs earn him a spot on the show...
"That'd be crazy," Culpa said. "That's be the next step that I'm looking for because I'm at this spot where I'm wondering 'Oh, what's the plan for me, what's God's plan for me?"
If it is in the plan for Freddy C to be on "The Voice", he already has his ideal judge picked out.

"Probably Usher, I would probably pick Usher."

Freddy flew to Nashville on Friday, and had his big audition Saturday afternoon.

We'll have an update when we hear back from Freddy on how he did.
