Bayard to establish TeamMates program

Posted: Updated:

The Bayard School District plans to establish a mentoring program to provide support and encouragement to school–aged youth.

TeamMates is a mentoring program founded by former Nebraska Huskers coach Tom Osborn.

The program aims to motivate youth to graduate from high school and pursuit post–secondary education.

Mentors are volunteers from the community who want to help make a difference in a young person's life.

"I know Scottsbluff and Gering have a strong teammates program," says Bayard Superintendent Travis Miller.  "Kimball has a program.  Bridgeport has a program.  So many other districts are already moving forward with well established teammates programs and we're excited about the possibilities for our students."

The TeamMates mentoring program currently provides a mentor for over 5,000 youth across Nebraska and Iowa.
