Sidney Police department, city reviewing options for expansion

Posted: Updated:

A southern panhandle police headquarters is looking to expand, as the city is continuing to grow.
The Sidney Police force is quickly outgrowing its current facility on Illinois avenue.

City Manager Gary Person says facility was remodeled many years ago from a Tastee Freez drive-in restaurant.

The city is now looking into one of three options: whether to renovate the current facility, find a location to build a new police headquarters, or move the department into a bigger building.
"We've embarked on a study that is going to lay out the future facility needs as well as study locations if we were able to build a new facility... where that would best fit in Sidney but still be able to handle what's going on with the interstate, east Sidney expansion, yet the downtown and north side of Sidney," Person said.
Person says the results of the study will be unveiled sometime this spring.
