Lego Club coming to Gering Public Library

Posted: Updated:

Lego enthusiasts in the twin cities will soon have a new place to meet, collaborate, and build.

The Gering Public Library is piecing together a new club for Lego lovers of all ages.

More than 6,000 Lego pieces have been collected and donated to the library to kick-off the new club.

The first meeting of the Lego club will be Tuesday, February 11 at 3:30p.m.

Gering Library Director, Diane Downer, says they are starting the club to try to draw more kids, especially boys, to the library.

Downer says in the club, kids will think they're just playing with Lego's, but they'll actually be learning as well.

"Studies have shown that playing will contribute to early literacy and development by increasing attention span, memory, creativity, language and vocabulary skills. And also lays the foundation fro logical and mathematical thinking, scientific reasoning and problem solving."

The club will meet at the Gering Library from 3:30p.m. to 4:30p.m. every second and fourth Tuesday of the month.

Donations of Lego's are appreciated.
