Valentines Day: Cockroaches, the perfect symbol of resilient, indestructible love

Posted: Updated:

With Valentines Day right around the corner, why not show your significant other that your love is eternal and resilient... Just like a cockroach.
The Riverside Discovery Center lets you name one of these Madagascar hissing cockroaches after your significant other as a special Valentines Day gift.

For $10 dollars zoo patrons can name a cockroach and receive a special certificate to take home.

For an extra $5 dollars, the zoo will throw in an edible all-chocolate cockroach to sweeten up the gift.

Riverside Discovery Center Education Curator, Kim Mediema, says cockroaches are the perfect way to show eternal, indestructible love.
"A lot of people will be like, 'why a cockroach?' but if you think about it, cockroaches are amazing animals, they've been around since the time of the dinosaurs, studies also show they could survive a nuclear blast, so they're really a great symbol of how resilient and eternal your love is for your significant other."
The deadline for naming a cockroach is Friday, February 7.

*Just for clarification: the cockroaches will stay at the Zoo, people do NOT get to take them home.
