Osborn wants to bring transparency to government spending

Posted: Updated:

Tonight we continue to give viewers an inside look at each of Nebraska's Republican candidates for U.S. Senate.

Shane Osborn thinks the senate needs a candidate that will put the country first.

"As a navy veteran I've definitely proven that," says Osborn.  "I've definitely put the whole country above my physical well-being."
Osborn says achieving government transparency is one of his biggest goals.
"In Nebraska we don't spend money we don't have," says Osborn.  "And I think that if the government is going to take our money, the least they can do is give us a receipt.  So when I was state treasurer I brought transparency to Nebraska: nebraskaspending.gov."
Osborn wants to bring that same transparency to Washington D.C.
"If you follow the money, you're going to figure out the root of the problem."
In the wake of the nation's mounting debt, the former State Treasurer is the only candidate to successfully shrink a government budget.
"I actually cut a budget...over four years I cut it 12% and Reduced staff by 28% but made the office so much more efficient we won the National Treasury Marquis Award: top treasurers office in the country, public or private."
Osborn is a long time opponent of Obama Care and thinks it needs to be repealed.

He says a free market place with individual health care plans will make health care more competitive and help bring cost down.

Shane Osborn is one of five GOP candidates in the race for U.S. Senate.

There are two more debates scheduled before voters go to the polls for the primary election in May.
