Hot Stuff collecting Valentine's Day cards for Pony Express reenactment ride

Posted: Updated:

If you're sending your loved ones Valentine's Day cards this year, why not send them through the Historic Pony Express?
A saddle set up in the Hot Stuff Pizza restaurant in the Shell gas station in Gering is collecting Valentine's Day cards.

The special cards will be canceled and taken by Pony Express to Hartville, Wyoming this weekend, in a reenactment of the first Pony Express ride.

Owner of Shell Gas Station and Hot Stuff Pizza, Jerry Kilthau, says the Pony Express cancellation stamp will give special recognition to loved one's Valentines.
"The cards will have the official Pony Express stamp on them, as well as the Hartville Post Office stamp. So if you want to address your cards with the correct postage, bring them in, put them in the saddle bag, and they'll be carried by the riders."
The Pony Express riders will take off to Hartville, WY from Guernsey, WY Saturday morning at 9 a.m.

Anyone wishing to have their Valentines Day cards canceled carried by Pony Express should bring their stamped and addressed cards to the Shell Gas station in Gering by Friday, February 7.

Kilthau says a similar ride was reenacted in December for Christmas Cards.
