More benefits to filing taxes earlier, rather than later

Posted: Updated:

W-2's and tax forms are starting to roll in, and local Certified Public Accountants say it's never too early to start preparing and filing your taxes.
January 31 marked the first day of Tax Season, and as most people scramble a the last minute to get their returns in before April 15, local CPA's say there are a lot more benefits to filing earlier.

Getting your tax forms in early allows you more time to pay if you have a balance due.

There's also more time to find missing information and catch potential errors.

Early filers also get their refunds quicker than those who wait, and Troy Hilyard, a CPA with FALCO, says filing early can also possibly increase the amount of that refund.
"It allows us, as your tax preparer, to explore and understand your tax situation and gives us the opportunity to more thoroughly look through and ask the right questions, get the right information, so we can get you all the benefits you're entitled to."
The IRS website offers free e-filing for some individual tax returns.

Mailed-in tax returns must be post marked by 11:59 p.m. on April 15.
