Sure Shot's "Shot Through the Heart" competition benefits American Heart Association

Posted: Updated:

February is Heart Month, and a local gun range is letting shooters practice their shot, all while helping the American Heart Association.
"Shot Through the Heart" is the newest shooting competition at Gering's 'Sure Shot Gun Range.'

The competition challenges shooters to shoot through a series different size heart shapes on a paper target at a distance of 30-feet.

Owner of the Sure Shot Gun Range, Richard Schank, says the range usually hosts competitions that incorporate different holidays and events, and he felt with this one, he wanted to give back to a good cause.
"We just felt like this time it might be time to give back to the community that's helped us build this range and get it going. So were going to do that when we're done, we're going to take 25% of the proceeds to the American Heart Association."

Schank says his mother has been a long time supporter and activist for the American Heart Association.

The competition is open until February 12.

The cost to enter the shooting competition is 10 dollars per target.
