Nebraska Farm Bureau happy farm bill passes

Posted: Updated:

We're hearing positive reactions from the Nebraska Farm Bureau following the signing of the nation's new five-year farm bill.
This week, President Barack Obama signed the federal measure that regulates agriculture production and food policy.

It puts an end to direct subsidies and creates a new crop insurance program for farmers.

It also invests money into rural communities and cuts 1 percent of funding to the food stamp program.
"Like a lot of folks have been saying, it's probably not the bill every individual would write.  It's not the bill that we would have written," says Jordan Dux, Director of National Affairs for the Nebraska Farm Bureau.  "But it's a sold bill.  It makes some much needed reforms to a number of programs."
Obama signed farm bill on Friday after four years of debate in Congress.
