Man arrested after showing up for court hearing allegedly under the influence

Posted: Updated:

A Mitchell man is under arrest after allegedly showing-up to court under the influence of alcohol for the jury selection for his upcoming drunk driving trial.

56-year-old Robert Bergstedt was in court Tuesday for charges relating to his third DUI offense.

However, security suspected Bergstedt came under the influence of alcohol and alerted court personnel.

Scotts Bluff County Court Judge Kris Mickey dismissed potential jurors from the court room and asked authorities to administer a preliminary breath test.

Bergstedt was deemed unfit for court and arrested for contempt. His DUI-third offense trial was postponed following Tuesday's incident.
