Corrections Officer declared brain dead following Friday morning strangulation

Posted: Updated:

A Corrections Officer has been declared brain dead, and a 15-year-old inmate is facing possible attempted murder charges, following an early morning attack at the Scotts Bluff County Detention Center.

Scotts Bluff County Attorney Doug Warner says that Dylan Cardeilhac attacked 24-year-old Amanda Baker at the Scotts Bluff County Detention Center.

Physicians at Regional West Medical Center declared Baker dead on Friday afternoon.

Warner says he expect that Cardeilhac will be facing a new charge of attempted first degree murder early next week at the Scotts Bluff County Court.

He has been placed in isolation following the Friday morning incident.

Cardeilhac was being detained in connection to an armed robbery at the Mitchell Kwik Stop in December.

Warner says that the Scotts Bluff County Sheriff's Office and Nebraska State Patrol are continuing this investigation.
