Keenan scheduled for May trial on extortion charges

Posted: Updated:

A May trial has been set for a southern panhandle woman charged with extorting money from a man who allegedly touched her daughter inappropriately.
30-year-old Kirstie Keenan is facing charges from an August incident where police say she tried to extort $20,000dollars from 56-year-old Jason Frei, of potter.

Authorities say cellphone messages show Keenan attempted to extort the money from Frei to keep her from reporting the groping incident to police.

Frei pleaded no contest to negligent child abuse and attempted witness tampering in December, his sentencing is scheduled on April 2.

Keenan pleaded not guilty to her charges, and will be headed to trial this May.
Keenan's trial is set for May 27 in the Cheyenne County courthouse.
