Scottsbluff woman one of five female recruits for NSP Training Academy

Posted: Updated:

A Scottsbluff woman is one of 25 recruits trying to become a trooper with the Nebraska State Patrol.

Cassie Wegelin had been a Communication Specialist for Troop E, and now wants to patrol state highways.

The 55th Recruit Class began last week in Grand Island. Troop E Captain Mike Gaudreault says that the recruits will now complete 1,100 hours worth of training over the next 23 weeks.

He says it is an extensive and rigorous course load, "Everything from very academic environment to a very physical environment," explains Gaudreault, "Where they're put under a lot of stress both academically as well as physically on a daily basis."

At the completion of the course, the recruits will be placed on assignment in one of the five troop areas in the state.
