Number of farms in Nebraska increasing, despite nation wide decline

New Agricultural Census data shows the number or farms in Nebraska is increasing, opposite of the nation–wide trend.

The USDA released preliminary findings this week this from the 2012 Census of Agriculture.

It states the number of farms in the united states from 2007 to 2012 declined by 4%.

But in that same time period, the number of Nebraska farms increased 4.7% to nearly 50,000 farms within the state.

Nebraska also made the top ten list for highest number of livestock sales, crop sales, and total overall ag–sales.

The Census of Agriculture is issued every five years and the findings are used in evaluating and implementing agriculture policies and programs.
