Alliance FD in need of volunteers

Posted: Updated:

February is Volunteer Firefighter month. The Alliance Fire Department is accepting applications for firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician volunteers.
Fire Chief Troy Shoemaker says the city can allow up to 60 volunteers to be on the force.

Currently, there are about 45.

Shoemaker says those interested in becoming a volunteer will have to put in about 140 hours a year. But the department makes those hours manageable by having a weekly training class.

Shoemaker says without volunteers, the department would not be able to serve the community properly.
"Volunteers save the taxpayers of Alliance a tremendous amount of money to operate the fire department. If it wasn't for them, we wouldn't be able to provide and serve."
Anyone interested in volunteering should contact the Alliance fire department at (308) 762-2151.
