Patriotic assembly comes to panhandle schools this week

Posted: Updated:

"Freedom cannot be bought, nor can it be sold."

That was the message a few visitors from Texas are delivering to panhandle schools this week to make sure that "freedom" is not forgotten in modern times.

Founder and Director of the short film 'Free to Be,' Larry Tooker says for decades young people have taken for granted their freedom in America.

He is showing the film in schools because the message of patriotism and living the American dream is not taught in classes.

At the end of each assembly, there's a Q & A session where students can ask local veterans questions.

Tooker says without the role of our armed forces, the value of education and opportunity in America is not possible.

"The reason for that is it puts emphasis on our program and the kids never forget it," said Tooker. "When they write their comments on their questionnaires...they always mention they love hearing from the veterans and how they loved hearing their stories."

The film has been shown at more than 440 schools. Tooker will visit students in Mitchell and Gering later this week.
