Inmate at Scotts Bluff County Detention Center caught with marijuana hidden in shoes

Posted: Updated:

An inmate is facing more charges after Corrections Officers found suspected marijuana hidden in his shoes.

31-year-old Valentino Garnette was arrested late last night in the Scotts Bluff County Detention Center. They say they found marijuana wrapped in toilet paper, sealed in a plastic bag, and then concealed in a yellow deodorant container that was stuffed in a pair of shoes belonging to George Cantu.

They say that Garnette turned himself into Detention Center Custody on Sunday on a commitment order.

When Corrections Officers entered the E-Pod Garnette was being detained in, they smelled the odor of burnt marijuana. Inmates said they utilized batteries to light the marijuana.

George Cantu told inmates that he was not going to take the fall for Garnette, and earlier in the day he was told to hold onto the marijuana or Garnette would beat him up.

The only marijuana found was in the pair of Cantu's shoes, and Valentino Garnette was booked on the charge of Possession of Marijuana less than one ounce.
