Classes offered next month to residents seeking concealed carry permits

Posted: Updated:

Panhandle residents will have the opportunity to receive a concealed carry permit after taking a class next month in Gering.

Instructor Michael Johnson with Heartland Tactical LLC says part of the class teaches people about gun laws, where you can carry guns and how to interact with society.

He says those interested must be 21 or older and a Nebraska resident.

The eight hour class will be offered March 1st, 9th and 30th from 7:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. Johnson teaches the class year-round if anyone is unable to make the above times.

He says although society is torn on gun owners verses non-gun owners, having a conceal carry permit should be a want not a need.
"I believe strongly that it's something that needs to be able to be at the person's own decision. They need to be able to choose whether they want this in their lives or not, if they want to make it a part of their lives or not."
Johnson says after taking the class, students will then have to visit Nebraska State Patrol for a background check and go through other processes in order to receive the permit.

He says the permit will be recognized in 32 states including Nebraska.

Classes are $125/person, $100/person for groups 3 or more, and $75 for military or law enforcement.
