Public gives opinion on future of downtown Scottsbluff

Posted: Updated:

The City of Scottsbluff gathers public input as it continues its efforts to revitalize its downtown.
Last night, Consultant Tom Bentley from Dropseed Studios in Omaha shared his vision of the future of downtown.

Some of the key objectives identified are to develop a landscape restoration design, produce a master plan of storm water and streetscape enhancements, and to instill a sense of "Scottsbluff place" which would celebrate the landscape in which we live.

One way to achieve that would be to move all the trees to street corners to improve aesthetics to downtown businesses.
"It moves the tree canopies out of conflict with some of the store fronts," explains Bentley, "I think the awnings- I just walked the streets up and down before the meeting- I just think the whole series of varied awnings is a very identifiable and just a very notable part of the essence of the downtown."

Kathi Manville with the 18th Street Farmer's Market asked if there could be more done to promote the seasonal gathering spot. One item she highlighted would be seating options.

The Scottsbluff City Council will now decide what it can afford to implement these suggestions.
