Box Butte Development Corp. housing study moving forward

Posted: Updated:

Members of the Box Butte Development Corporation and the city of Alliance are continuing their community housing study after receiving a $15,000 grant from the state.
The Nebraska Investment Finance Authority (NIFA) has provided a study grant that will help the city find out where and how the community is growing.

Alliance and BBDC also matched the grant from NIFA.

BBDC Executive Director Chelsie Herian says the last housing study was conducted in 2007.

She says since then, the economy has changed and there has been a shift in population and expansion projects happening in Alliance.

She says having places for people to live is becoming a problem.
"This has been a long drawn out process, we've known that housing is an issue for Alliance for a long time and I'm just excited that this is that first step to address the issue and having something to show for it. Kind of get the ball rolling a little bit quicker," said Herian.
Herian said part of the six-month housing study will look at the possibilities of having renting housing, new housing or senior housing.
