President Obama's views on XL pipeline expected to come "soon"

Posted: Updated:

President Obama is expected to voice his opinion soon on a proposed trans-continental pipeline.

Talks on the XL pipeline have been ongoing for nearly 5 years now, and President Obama has yet to say whether he supports or opposes the line.

The XL Pipeline, which will carry hundreds of thousands of crude oil from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico, has drawn criticism from opponents worried about environmental impacts and oil spills.

Governor Dave Heineman said when he attended a national meeting of governors this week, President Obama announced that he will be making a decision on the controversial XL Pipeline very soon.
"He gave no indication which way he was going to decide, noting only that a decision is coming, and some governors would be happy, and others would not," Heineman said Tuesday.
The proposed route of the XL Pipeline will run from Canada, through Nebraska, to the Gulf of Mexico.
