Speakers, producers gather for 2014 No-till Winter Conference

Posted: Updated:

Dozens of ag producers and specialists gathered in the Gering Civic Center today for the start of the 2014 No-till Winter Conference.
The two day conference will focus on continuous no-till crop production, with a number of out-of-town and local speakers.

Special focus will be on forages, irrigation, water management strategies, general overall soil health, diverse crop rotation, and the integration of livestock on no-till operations.

Mark Watson, Chairman of the Panhandle No-till Partnership, says the conference attracts a number of producers who are interested in starting no-till cropping systems as well as those looking to improve on systems already in place.

Watson says no-till operations are beneficial in conserving limited water supply on Nebraska farmlands.
"We better are able to manage water that we are able to receive from Mother Nature or irrigation water. And with the extra water management that provides, we can go to more intense, diverse cropping systems and increase the profitability of the farming operation."
The conference continues Thursday at the Civic Center.
