2015 defense budget recommends shrinking U.S. Army to smallest size in 74 years

U.S. Senator Deb Fischer says proposed reductions to the army are troubling.

Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel has recommended shrinking the army to its smallest size in decades as part of the 2015 defense budget.

Hagel says the military needs to adjust to the reality of smaller budgets, even though he says the country faces a more unpredictable world.

U.S. Senator Deb Fischer says America is now looking at drastic measures to meet the requirement set by the budget control act.

"In a perfect world, strategy would drive budgets. But that's not the case that we're seeing here. Instead, we're looking at the smallest army in 74 years."

Fischer also says she doesn't think the world has gotten any safer since threats to our country and allies continue to grow.
