Driver in 2012 drunk driving fatality granted parole

Posted: Updated:

The man convicted in a July 2012 fatal drunk driving accident has been granted parole.
22-year-old Drew Schmaltz was sentenced last spring to spend 2-to-3 years in prison on a manslaughter charge (with 90 days credit served.)

Schmaltz was driving drunk on a county road in Minatare, when he lost control of the pickup he was driving, killing 21-year-old Taylor Magdaleno.

On Thursday he was granted discretionary parole after spending 366 days behind bars at the Omaha Community Corrections.
During his sentencing last May, Schmaltz expressed remorse for the pain and suffering he caused.
