United Way of Western Nebraska surpasses fundraising totals for 2013-2014 campaign

Posted: Updated:

A charity organization in KOTA Territory exceeds its fundraising goal for the second straight year.

Campaign co-chairs Susan Wiedeman and Danielle Wondercheck from the United Way of Western Nebraska say they surpassed this year's fundraising goal of $380,000 by raising a total of $391,363 for their 2013-2014 campaign.

Executive Director Steph Black says it was a tough year raising money, but the community always steps up.

This year 24-non-profit agencies benefited from United Way funding, thanks in part to their first annual Color Dash.

"We were overwhelmed with the response we received with that," says Special Events Coordinator Jeana Allen. "We sold out our first year, we had 1,000 entrants with that and the community really got behind that, the local businesses did. So we're anxious for that this year and without those special events we would be able to make goals."

Non-profit groups have until Friday March 7th to apply for funding for the 2014 – 2015 campaign.
