June trial date set for accused Mitchell meth dealer

Posted: Updated:

A June trial has been scheduled for one of the two men arrested in a massive meth bust last month in Mitchell.

27-year-old George Valles is being charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute more than 140 grams. Today in Scotts Bluff County District Court, Valles pled not guilty to the charge.

On January 10th, investigators from the Mitchell Police Department and WING Drug Task Force seized more than 18 ounces of methamphetamine from Valles' house in Mitchell. Also arrested that day was Joseph Lowery- who is also being charged in this case.

Defense Attorney Todd Morten requested a bond reduction for Valles, who is currently being held on a $500,000 bond at 10%. Judge Randall Lippstreu denied that request, and set the case for pre-trial conference on May 22, 2014. It is slated to go to trial in the jury term that begins on June 3, 2014.

Valles is being charged with a Class IB felony; if convicted he would face a mandatory minimum of 20 years behind bars.
